Interview With…….Dave Gibbons

Another driver who took an unusual route into motorsport is Krafted Motorsports Dave Gibbons. From being a sponsor of our friend Paul Sawyer to entering the Mini Challenge Clubsport in 2026. It’s fair to say that he’s taken to it like a duck to water and is now established as one of the front runners in the S53 class, finishing this season in forth place!

Question 1 - Who are you and what do you race? - Dave Gibbons and race a R53 in the Mini Challenge Clubsport, Classic Sports Car Club series and soon the Snetterton Saloons. Coached by Daryl DeLeon and Martin Byford.

Question 2 - What got you into motorsport? - I was sponsoring Paul Sawyer in the MCC and done numerous track days and thought I would get involved myself. I had numerous lessons from Martin Byford and asked him the question… “Would I be good enough?” And here I am!

Question 3 - What is your dream car, track and era combination and why? - My dream car is a Ferrari F8 but I really love my minis. Lots of fun at affordable motorsport fun ! Woukd love to get into a Porsche Cup car just to cross off on my bucket list.

Question 4 - Your path to being a racing driver is a little different to most. What inspired you to get involved and why do you think the competition bug has bitten so hard?! - My cousin Colin Gibbons has been involved in motorsport as long as I can remember driving and winning in Classic Touring in his Alfa so it’s always been there but never had the time and money to take it seriously until the past few years. I am a competitive person and love a challenge. I have had no karting or any kind of racing prior so I have had to put in extra work than most to get involved and race the best I can. The hard work and coaching has really paid off this year and lots of experience gained for next year.

Question 5 - What do you wish someone had told you before you started racing? - Don’t use the brake and don’t lift off ! 😂😂

Question 6 - What's your favourite Rocked-IT product and why? - These new bags you have just bought out are awesome. The colours are my colours for next year on both minis ! But the truth is they look the nuts so well done 👏🏻

Question 7 - Motorsport looks like an individual sport but it requires a team behind you. Who deserves a special mention? -  We have a top team at Krafted Motorsport so everyone involved has been a key cog this year and I will be forever grateful to each of them but Kevin / Josh Fulbrook of Sussex Road Race have gone out of their way to guide me through each stage of my drive this year, sometimes the truth hurts but it’s done in a constructive way which has pushed me forward. My team mates Paul Sawyer, Simon Sinfield, Chris Williams and my friend John Wyatt for all the encouragement and friendship. Most of all my wife Angie who reckons I’m obsessed !
