Interview With…….Scott Evans
Scott has a bit of an obsession, initially it looks like it’s with Porsches, and he does like Porsches. After time you realise it’s with motorsport generally and really, really well prepared race cars! He’s also one half of The Driving Torque podcast meaning he’s never short of an opinion or two!
Question 1 - Who are you and what do you race? - My name is Scott Evans and I race Porsche Boxster cup and C1 endurance.
Question 2 - What got you into motorsport? - I have loved cars for as long as I can remember, I was at a race track from 14 days old watching my grandad race on short ovals, either Spedeworth in a Austin 1300GT or a Mini Clubman at Tongham motor club. A club he help found. We used to watch at the now gone Wimbledon stadium and I remember him taking me to watch at Tongham when I was 12 and its all I have wanted to do since. The bug definitely bit me and it bit HARD!
Question 3 - What is your dream car, track and era combination and why? - My dream car is a tough one as it depends on road or race really. My dream car is a black 996 GT3 the last Analogue 911. Race car..... the 2000 prodrive Btcc Mondeo, what a car, epic engineering phenomenal sound and iconic livery. That Mondeo around Donnington park in 2000 would have just been amazing!
Question 4 - You are the driving force behind Sandown Motorsport. What inspired you to start the team? - What inspired Sandown motorsport?. Hadleigh Rossiter the big boss. A phone call from him during covid changed my life. We started as swerve racing team then a second c1 that we ran as Sandown motorsport and that has evolved into running Porsches and the work we do today restoring high end classics and race cars among other things.
Question 5 - People will know you from The Driving Torque Podcast. How did you get involved with it and why do you think you and Rob often provoke such strong reactions from listeners? - Its funny I'm now known more for talking motorsport next to the emotional Viking than my racing! Rob was a bit down as the pod was sort of neglected by some who promised to help with it but that's part of life it has a way of getting in the way. I enjoyed listening to the podcast myself and me and Rob had become good friends and honestly chatted daily anyway, so I said grab your gear and come to the workshop lets see what happens and its growing into what we have at the moment. I never planned on sitting talking with him I just wanted to help him with his passion. I think we get the reactions we get because we call it as we see it. Ive never been one to sit on the fence I don't think its healthy to not be yourself regardless on how flawed that may be, and I think rob is so passionate about the sport that his opinions are truly heartfelt. We both absolutely love motorsport and club motorsport needs its voice hopefully we can be that voice be it right or wrong.
Question 6 - What's your favourite Rocked-IT product and why? - So far thanks to Rocked-IT’s kind gift I received on my birthday, the day we did the pod with Nick (its brilliant have a listen). I only have the Helmet/ Hans bag and I love it. I plan on upgrading my current kit bag to a large custom bag soon once I'm back out on track.
Question 7 - Motorsport looks like an individual sport but it requires a team behind you. Who deserves a special mention? - Team work makes the dream work is what they say and that's absolutely true!. I have been so lucky to have people behind me supporting me and this team. Firstly with my Dad I don't think I could have even put my bum in a seat at 12 and he still helps today even though he has his health issues he is always there. As with nearly every married man in motorsport there are motorsport widows as we call them and Tash is mine she's amazing and always in my corner. Last its Hadleigh he has given me the opportunity to live my dream, get my ARDS, get on track and start my own team I cant ever thank him enough, I cant thank anyone who has helped me enough. You can never achieve anything alone its just not possible we all need help in whatever we do in life and if you have the right people around you nothing is unachievable.
