Interview With…….Paul Sawyer

Some people seem to find an additional few hours a day, Paul Sawyer is one of those people. Not content with a music career that has seen (or heard) him DJ internationally, have a Radio One show and run his own record label, he’s now a front runner in Mini Challenge Clubsport. He’s taken time out of his VERY busy day to tell us all about his ever growing racing career.

Question 1 - Who are you and what do you race?

I am Paul Sawyer, known for my music career that spans over 30 years including touring the World and a show on BBC Radio 1 between 2021 and 2023. I’ve been racing in MINI CHALLENGE Clubsport for nearly three years now and approaching the last round at Donington.

Question 2 - What got you into motorsport?

I’ve always been a motorsport fan and have raced from an early age of 11 in Motocross, as well as Mountain bike racing before injuring myself three years ago. That’s when I decided to give circuit racing a try. I’ve mainly watched BTCC, Carrera Cup and Porsche Sprint Challenge over the years, so to be racing on the circuits I’ve watched hundreds of times, is amazing.

Question 3 - What is your dream car, track and era combination and why?

I’d love to race a 911 Cup car or a GT4 cayman, that’s always been a dream of mine. I’d also love to drive at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, that’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

Question 4 - You have been incredibly active in creative fields such as music before Motorsport. How has this influenced how you approach your racing?

Being extremely organised and focused is what you need for a successful career in Music and that’s definitely something to bring into motorsport. Piecing everything together and being open to learning constantly is a must.

Question 5 - You've gone from one car in 2025, to multiple cars in 2026. How have your race weekends changed this season?

Originally it was just me in the team, but we suddenly grew to a four car team for 2026. My two friends Simon Sinfield who I run my record label with and Dave Gibbons who sponsored me in 2025 decided to give it a go in the series. We also have Adrian Linggi who we look after at race weekends as a customer driver. The whole overall size of the set up is much bigger now with the addition of our race lorry, awning and multiple staff. Looks like it will be growing more for 2027, which is great.

Question 6 - What's your favourite Rocked-IT product and why?

I love my race suit that you guys got custom made for me, the detail is amazing and fits like a glove. I also love my bags that I got for my kit and helmet. Both are matching in our team colours with my logo on and just look so great. I’d recommend those to anyone looking for good quality bags.

Question 7 - Motorsport looks like an individual sport but it requires a team behind you. Who deserves a special mention?  

That is a must!! Having the right team transformed my racing journey. The guys from Sussex Road and Race headed up by Josh and Kevin Fulbrook have been so instrumental in giving me a car that gets me up front alongside their team of mechanics. Chris Williams our team manager does a fantastic job looking after the drivers at race weekends, making sure we are where we are supposed to be and in the right frame of mind for each race. It just makes life so much easier so you can concentrate on driving at the best of your ability. My driver coach Bobby Thompson has also transformed my driving this year and having the support of your family is paramount too.
